Halloween! ...yay.

I haven't posted for a really long time, but it's just because I haven't really thought of anything to post about. I don't want to talk about last weekend because it will only depress me; nothing crazily exciting is going on at school; Halloween has come and is well on its way to going. So I'm just going to write randomly again.

We got our second major essays back in English on Wednesday, and mine didn't have a grade on it. On the back, it said "You have a really great paper, but it's against my policy to grade papers that are significantly shorter than the requirements i.e. 1 page or more." Since we can rewrite a paper as many times as we want in that class with no detriment to our grade, I'm not worried. When I went to talk to her after class today (we have to discuss our paper with her if we want to rewrite it) she said "It's an A paper once you get it to that fourth page." She said that she realizes how bad that sounds, but that she has the length requirements for a reason, and I have to abide by them despite whether she likes my paper or not.

I only have to go to the organic chem lab -- *counts* -- five more times (one of which, my sister Steph's birthday, is the final exam). That means I only have to do two more prelabs and three more postlabs...which actually sounds like a lot...

Do any of your respective college campuses (campi) have stray cats that run around during the night? Whenever I'm out of my dorm late at night (which happens much more often than you would believe) I see stray cats all around. One time I saw a cat jumping around in a tree; other times I see that people have put food out for them and the cats are just eating it all up. I've often thought about taking my backpack with me one night with nothing in it and just putting one of the cats inside of it so that I can secretly bring it back up to my dorm and have a pet kitten. If I do this, however, I won't be able to keep my room's door open all the time, and ostracism would become way too much. Plus, every time I try to go up and pet one of the cats, they dart away before I get within 100 feet.

In the school paper, there's been an ongoing argument about whether or not creationist theory should be taught in school along with the theory of evolution. It's really starting to annoy me how many people refuse to accept evolution, but I'm sure I'll be able to cope.

Well I'm sure everyone wants to get to their massive Halloween festivities...I know I do... Maybe I'll finally go get Halo from someone down the hall who offered it to me a week ago. Of course, sleeping doesn't sound like a bad way to spend the night, either...

I hate weekends

I hate waking up at 1:00 pm every Saturday and Sunday for the sheer reason that there is nothing better to do on the weekends than sleep. I wake up so late thinking "Damn, I've already wasted almost half the day!" Then I remember that if I wake up, I'm only going to waste the rest of the day, so I try to go back to sleep, knowing that it'll be much better to waste it when I'm not conscious of my doing so. When I finally wake up, I do nothing all day, and there's really not much to like about that. On the weekend, I miss going to class during the week, when at least I'm getting something accomplished. Getting stuff done helps me better realize that I'm at least moving forward in the fourth dimension. It's funny...during the week, I want to quickly finish it and start the weekend; and during the weekend, I can only look forward to finishing the next week.

Me == Intelligent

I just got candy!! One of the RAs just came into my room (door always open) and gave me some smarties. She said, "Congratulations! You're a smartie!" Apparently, if I'm in my room while I have the door propped open, I'm smart because then no one will steal my stuff. Also, if I have the door locked while I'm not in it, that's smart, too. Basically, I got candy because I'm in my room. And no 3 hour lab tomorrow...only 5 more classes of that left before the final.

UPDATE:
APPARENTLY if you did the opposite of stuff you were supposed to do, you got a dum-dum (because you're dumb!). I would have killed for a dum-dum over smarties...ugh...

He can even pronounce my last name

103 on my organic chemistry test...high in class

More importantly, teachers say more things on your right.

And I have nothing else to post about...how boring

New South Park on Wednesday

I just came from a birthday party across the hall. Never underestimate the power of free food. Once the door was opened (at first closed to hide the fact that there were lit candles in the room), the entire hall came to the room to get a piece of cake. I learned there that you can buy wedding cakes at Wal-Mart and that people don't like you if you talk on the phone "too long."

I also did my laundry tonight. I ran (completely) out of clean clothes two days ago, and I've been meaning to do laundry the last two nights, but I finally remembered before midnight today, so I had plenty of time to get it done. I am proud to say that I have a 100% sock-recovery rate. I have not lost a single sock since I have been at college...at least not an odd number of socks. I may have lost pairs of socks, but I don't think so. I am so excited about this sock-recovery percentage, because I think that my percent yields in the lab will get better now that I know that I can't be bad at recovering everything. By the way, I can't tell if I'm getting better or worse at labs. Today, I finished the lab with 5% yield. While that is in no way good (and I even scraped some spilled crystals off the countertop!), I can't help but think that at least it's better than 150% yield...

[insert segue]

The honors college invited the kids (i.e. students) in it to go see The Glass Menagerie on Tuesday, October 28. I think I'll go see it. While the play wasn't really one of my favorite things we read in high school, I don't think just reading a play can do it justice, especially in those English classes (Max will back me up if he even reads this site...I'm sure he remembers the people reading Julius Caesar with such monotony in sophomore year). I only mention this because the RSVP date is tomorrow (or today now....it's 12:05 am) by 5:00 pm, and I'm sure that writing this will help me remember to RSVP sometime tomorrow when I'm near my phone.

Oh, and I just read (a few days ago) some essay from a book for English that talked about the evolution of music from mid '80s to mid '90s. It brought back so many memories from my childhood with my brother in Topeka back when MTV was good and actually played music. It reminded me of my brother because every band the guy talked about in the essay (Nine Inch Nails, REM, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Jane's Addiction, The Pixies, Soundgarden, Green Day, The Offspring, Stone Temple Pilots....the list goes on) was a band I remember my brother teaching me something about and introducing me to. I should have fun discussing that in class tomorrow (eww...at 8:00 am).

In re-reading this, I think that in writing I may use parentheses and ellipses a tad too much. But, then again, I do so love them.

Me != Intelligent

I woke up at 1:00 today, a bad habit that I've started to conform to on the weekends. Per routine, I ate Taco Bell for lunch/breakfast. I then decided that I needed to go to Wal-Mart to get some hairspray, hand soap, and deodorant. I drove all the way to Wal-Mart (via some highway and like 15 minutes). When I got there, something made me check my wallet for my debit card. I realized then that I must have left it in the ATM machine when I went to go get cash the other day. I now give you all permission -- as if you didn't already have it -- to make fun of me all you want. I deserve it so much for making such a dumb mistake. I really can't even stop laughing at myself. So I called my dad and got everything squared away; luckily no one had used it yet, so everything is fine and dandy. One thing, though: the bank apparently had my birthday recorded incorrectly. They had my sister's birthday in there instead of mine, and she doesn't even have an account there...oh well...

I drove all the way back to the dorm, got my checkbook, then drove all the way back to Wal-Mart and bought the stuff. I also bought a $10 adaptor so I can finally plug my N64 into the cable jack on the back of this TV. Then I went to the grocery store to buy Hi-C, Dr. Pepper, and snacks. There were lots of babies there (aww...Brooklyn...), so I had to think about the N64 waiting for me at the dorm a lot in order to stay relatively happy. It feels like time for an old-school Smash Brothers fix.

I am so burning in hell

Remember those little miniature comics people used to randomly hand out before high school that were all preachy and religious?

Kids say the most darned things

I've added a new section over there on the right side of your screen. I'll keep my ears open in class (I pay attention to the important things...) for new, funnier quotes as they present themselves. Right now, I have to go learn how solar power works. In my introduction to chemical engineering class, we have to make (or buy) a pump that can pump water up a distance of 10 inches for some period of time. But we have to find a way to make it solar-powered, and I have no clue how to even start that. And we get a maximum of $30 for the whole project.

Only six more weeks

I went home this weekend, as I'm sure you already knew. And no, I'm not happy to be back. Not many (if any) of you have seen me cry (and I did), but it's much harder to be away than I thought it could be when I left for college.

On a lighter note, I went to a club for the first time on Friday night. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I was actually able to not worry about how dumb I may have looked and just dance (no comment Olivia or AJ) around with the music and Nathalie. The music was so very loud, and rap music is so very bass-y. Very large subwoofer... There were also a lot of people there who kept yelling for UT. I felt obliged to yell for OU, and I don't think anyone heard me, nor did I really know what to yell.

I then went to Six Flags on Saturday. And if Drew had not been 30 minutes late, I would have seen him that morning, too. I went with my mom and Brooklyn (she's so big and smart!). Nathalie met up with us after a couple of hours, so I went off with her to go ride the bigger rides, and my dad, who also came around the same time Nathalie did, went off with my mom and Brooklyn. All this after lunch at Steak and Shake...mmm... All I have to say about Six Flags is that the people there are very quick to process their complaints.

Sunday morning I spent at the mall for like 2 and 1/2 hours looking for a birthday present for Candace. Why did no one ever inform me in the 8 years I lived in Arlington that the mall doesn't open until noon on Sundays?! I got there at like 11:15 and just walked around looking in windows and checking out the big department stores until the other stores began to open. I finally found a present I thought she would like and noted once again just how hard it is to shop for girls. When I got back, I went to go pick up Tabitha and Brooklyn from their home. When I reached their apartment out in South Arlington, I remembered that they don't live there anymore: they moved to a place not 5 minutes from my house. So I drove all the way back and was thoroughly made fun of when I got there. Sunday afternoon we all ate an early dinner for Candace's birthday, which was very fun for me (despite how horrifying I'm sure it was for Nathalie, as it is for everyone the first time they eat at my house). I also got to play with Brooklyn for a little while after dinner. Later that night, after I had to say goodbye to Steph as she went back to OU, I got to go out with my dad and brother to look at some used cars. Joe's car is broken, so we went out to Dallas to check out some cars from the internet. It was good to get to talk to them both, even if just for a little bit, because my dad was leaving town on Monday, and I knew I probably wouldn't see Joe much again before I left.

Monday Nathalie and I went to Fry's to get Candace a USB cable for her printer, which still does not work for whatever reason. We then went to Simply Fondue for dinner, which has very good food and is lots of fun to eat at. We then quickly (via the "provocation" of an S2000) made it to the Parks mall to see Kill Bill with AJ and Olivia. You cannot imagine the level of violence in that movie. ...so very cool... While we're on the subject, by the way, The Jersey on Disney really is one of the worst shows on television. I find it difficult to believe that people actually watch it on a regular basis.

Tuesday was just sad. I cried, said bye to people, and cried some more.

There were also random naps throughout the weekend because sleep is such a precious commodity. And falling alseep holding someone you love just makes it that much better.

OK, I need to stop writing now, if you're even still reading this. In case you can't tell, I'm just getting sadder by writing about all the fun I won't be able to have for another six weeks. I didn't mean to make this sound pathetic with a "pity me" tone, so I must end it here before it just gets worse.

Home

This will probably be the last post I do until Tuesday or Wednesday. I get to go home this weekend (get in Friday at 9:01 pm), and we get out for "Fall Break" on Monday and Tuesday, so I get to stay in Arlington until Tuesday evening! Four days is better than none, right?

Hmm....we have gay money now, too...just like other countries! The new colored $20-bills were issued out to banks today (or so I heard). I propose a contest: the first person who gets their hands on this badass addition to the US mint and can prove it (by sending it directly to me) gets a piece of paper that looks something like a certificate of authenticity! (no money-back guarantee)

Also, something to ponder while I'm away and you're depressed because you don't get to read any wonderful new posts:

The animals are beginning their attack
Oh my...That last one is really sad and not for the faint of heart.

I'll leave you on a happier thought (possibly): if there was a drug that simulated everything wonderful about love, would you take it?

If it weren't for that horse...

It's so hilarious to hear people say stupid things and actually mean it. Before organic chem started, we were all sitting in class waiting for the teacher, and some girl looked up from her paper and said, "Oh my God, y'all! Schwarzenegger won! He's not even American!" *sigh*

The actual class was fun, though. We learned all kinds of mechanisms and I got to ask all kinds of questions over each one. He says I'll have to wait until physical chemistry to understand why things react in the way they do instead of another way because he can't explain it ("That's a physical chemistry topic, and I stay away from that like I do math"). *GASP*

Anyone who's in town this weekend want a copy of Jedi Academy? It's fun...

The best part of waking up

We just watched part of Chasing Amy in English class, and I was the only one (out of about 15) who had heard of Kevin Smith, though some people had seen Clerks and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. We were talking about using language to antagonize readers and its usefulness in different situations. The part with Hooper-X yelling to the white audience about "how the white man keeps the brother man down" constitutes such a time, but she wouldn't let me talk about why he was doing it because I knew the reason, having seen the movie before. I just had to sit there while people tried to figure out his reasoning. Anyway...I think I'm going to try to get my teacher to play Clerks (yes, it's a good movie) and make the class write about why Kevin Smith uses those certain words for chapter headings throughout the film. I think that's the best approach for getting her to let us watch it, right? It has really great dialogue in it, too. I'm sure I can work that in somehow.

Changes? What Changes?

So I decided I didn't like my blog the way it was and that it needed help (induced partly by Graham talking about changing his)...I tried.

I looked through source code on other sites to teach myself html (I looked at Blake's title bar things for each post to help make mine...Thanks! I'll try to make them more different when I have time tomorrow). I know it's basic stuff that I did (and most of it incorrectly), but hopefully I can learn more and make it more unique than just some simple changes to the original template. Don't laugh at me...Or do...

Just a Post

Nothing to post about...So I'll just write whatever comes into my head

I'm sure there's more, but I'm preoccupied. More later if I remember or care enough.

I can't wait seven more days before I get to go home.

I won't be able to leave just four days after I get there.

I can't wait six more weeks after that before I get to come home again.

I will go insane.
